San Diego County Colleges

San Diego County is located near the Pacific Ocean. It is the third most populated county in the state of California. According to an estimated census report San Diego County would be just a little over 3 million residents. San Diego has beautiful weather, numerous outdoor activities for the entire family and the popular San Diego Zoo for everyone to enjoy.

The county seat for San Diego County is San Diego and the county is a part of bi-national metropolitan area. It is a shared location between the US and Mexico and it is called the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. The area has over 5 million people that inhabit it. The county also has the honor of being the southwestern most county across the contiguous 48 states.

While San Diego has ideal weather and local attractions that is not all that is offered there. There are miles of beaches for fun and sun and tanning. 16 military facilities are also located in San Diego County. They are hosts for the United States Navy, the US Coast Guard and the US Marine Corps.

San Diego County’s history dates all the way back 10,000 years. The area that is now where the county is located was once inhabited by the Kumeyaay Indians. The county actually became part of the US because of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ending the US-Mexican War. San Diego County was part of the original counties in 1850 when California became a state.

The topography in San Diego County is quite varied. On one side there is miles of coastline and there are hills, mesas and canyons. The northeast has mountains while the Sonoran Desert can be found in the far east. The Cleveland National Forest and the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park are also located there. Cities in San Diego County include La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Chula Vista and may others.

The nature of San Diego County is vast. There are numerous state parks, mountains, lakes and rivers. Otay River and the San Diego River call this county home. Visit Border Field State Park and Carlsbad State Beach for a fun day. Enjoy the Volcan Mountains and their beauty. San Diego County also boasts 236 mountain summits and peaks. That includes Hot Springs Mountain, which is the highest point in the county.

The sites of San Diego can not be seen in one day, but they are worth the trip to try. There is the San Diego Wild Animal Park, which is less than 40 miles north of the San Diego Zoo. Sea World and the San Diego Maritime Museum are both located in San Diego County. Alta Vista Gardens is a botanical garden that has beauty all year round.

San Diego County has long been voters of the Republican party. 2008 a Democrat won the votes and in 1992 Bill Clinton won the plurality. When Obama won votes in the county it was the first Democratic to succeed there since World War II. San Diego City is more Democratic than the county.

San Diego County is one that brings families together for a nice vacation and also serves the military. It is a county that has a median household income that is almost 53,000 and a 50/50 rate for marriage. San Diego County is a great place to live and visit.
