The campus has small classes, religious values, and education that is prided on competence, conscience, and compassion. For the first 110 years of SCU’s start, the student body was all male. In 1961, women joined the student body and the school became the first coed Catholic university in California. The campus sets on 106 acres of land with eight residence halls, student union and an athletic stadium.

SCU offers schools and colleges that include arts and sciences, education and counseling psychology, the Leavey School of Business, a school of engineering, the Jesuit School of Theology, school of law and a summer school. Students can earn bachelors and master’s degrees, law degrees, a PhD in engineering and certificate programs. SCU also offers its students centers that are based upon Jesuit beliefs. The centers are for science/technology/society, the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education and the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.

At SCU, students can take part in outreach programs, immersion trips, and other academic programs to help themselves, their community, and people worldwide.
