About the college
Pitzer College was founded in 1963. The school’s curriculum is focused on liberal arts education with social justice, intercultural diversity, and community involvement. At Pitzer, students are offered an amazing academic environment, a variety of athletic programs and social/community activities. The college has a unique view on education in that they want their students to study courses with issues that looked at through two cultures and two disciplines. That way the issue is examined from all sides and students gain a better understanding. Campus In Claremont, California at the San Gabriel Mountains is the campus of Pitzer College. Claremont provides students with a year round climate for various outdoor activities like skiing in the winter and camping in the summertime. The campus is only an hour away from California beaches, oceans, deserts, and mountains. With the commuter rail, students can take a quick ride to the city of Los Angeles plus restaurants, shopping centers and entertainment venues. The campus offers clubs and organizations including the student union, art club, surf club, feminist coalition and a black student union to name a few. Courses Besides giving loaner bikes to students to make the college more eco-friendly, Pitzer offers various degree programs for its students to start their career futures. The college offers centers and institutes, majors/minors, a study abroad program and intercollegiate programs. In each field studied at Pitzer there are required courses that include, but are not limited to creative studies, history of ideas, philosophy, and political economy. The school’s curriculum is has a tradition of intellectual debates, diverse skills, languages and perspectives.
