About the College
The Academy of Barbering Arts offers two distinct courses of study: barbering course and cosmetology course. The school also offers Barber Crossover Course for Cosmetologists as well as an Instructor Trainee Course. The college is located in a 4,000 square foot building in Northridge California. Inside the facility, students learn through a "learn by doing" method with all the equipment and supplies that one would find at a modern salon or barber shop. The facility does offer a student lounge for students to have an eating area as well as a rest area. All students are assigned a locker to provide them a spot for their personal items as well as for his or her supplies. At the end of the courses, the students will be prepared to pass the California Bureau of Barbering/Cosmetology Licensing Exams. Courses Available Barber Course The barber course is 1500 clock hours and offers technical instructional and practical operations covering all practices comprising the art of barbering. The classes a student can expect include Haircuts and Hairstyles, Shaving, Rest Facials, Shampoos, Scalp Manipulations, Hair Waving and Curling, Hair Coloring/tinting, Hair processing and Relaxing. There are day and evening classes available as well as some Saturday classes. Barber Crossover Course for Cosmetologists For those that have a cosmetologist license, but have not taken a class to cut men’s hair this is the course for you. The course is 400 clock hours and offers technical instructional and practical operations covering barber practices that are not a part of the required training of a cosmetologist. Classes a student can expect include Haircuts and Hairstyles, Rest Facials, Manipulations, Shaving and Shampooing. There are day and evening classes available as well as some Saturday classes. Cosmetology Course The cosmetology course is 1600 clock hours and offers technical instructional and practical operations covering all aspects of cosmetology. The classes a student can expect include Hair cuts and Hair styles, Shaving, Rest Facials, Shampoos, Scalp Manipulations, Hair Waving, manicure, pedicure, make up, acrylics and Curling, Hair Coloring/tinting, Hair processing and Relaxing. There are day and evening classes available as well as some Saturday classes. Instructor Trainee Course The Instructor Trainee Course is of 600 clock hours and offers technical instructional and practical operations covering all aspects of teaching. The classes a student can expect include Haircuts and Hairstyles, Shaving, Rest Facials, Shampoos, Scalp Manipulations, Hair Waving and Curling, Hair Coloring/tinting, Hair processing and Relaxing. There are day and evening classes available as well as some Saturday classes.
