About the college

San Francisco State University, SFSU,SF has a rich history that dates back to 1899. It was founded as the San Francisco State Normal School and was the first of its kind to require a high school diploma for admission. The college has gone through five name changes over the years and settled on its current name in 1974. Two years after opening its doors the university had its first graduating class of all women and three years later, the first man was admitted to the university.

Campus

San Francisco: the city on the bay and the city with the Golden Gate Bridge, great weather and the best local attractions. The campus offers on site housing on 141.61 acres of beautiful land. Purple and gold are the school colors and the campus offers music programs with student and faculty recitals, a media access center, computer lab and the J. Paul Leonard library building.

Courses

At SFSU, there are several academic colleges that are focused on specific fields of study. They are behavioral/social sciences, business, creative arts, education, ethnic studies, health/human services, humanities, science, and engineering. The programs offered in two 16-semester terms with classes from late August to December and late January to May. Summer classes are also offered from June through August.

Graduates from SFSU can walk out of the college with bachelors and master’s degrees in a variety of fields. In addition, a doctor of education degree in educational leadership can be earned. Students can achieve joint degrees with UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco with a PhD or Master of Science degree. San Francisco state also has credential and certificate programs as part of their curriculum. SFSU is your college for the future.
