About the college

The Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology has a long and rich history that dates all the way back to 1851 and the journey of Francis Vilarassa from Spain all the way to California. The school was founded in 1964. With its dedication to the pursuit of truth through the gospel the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology searches through questions and finds the answers through human logic.

The Dominican School campus is located in Berkeley, California. Faculty at the campus are at the top of their chosen fields. Classes are small for individual attention and study. The philosophy department has faculty members that focus on the philosophies of contemporary, modern, medieval, and classical. The philosophies of some of the most famous thought provokers are studied with the likes of Plato, Aristotle and others. The Theology department focuses more on the religious aspects of Scripture, spirituality, church history, etc.

The Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology creates an educational environment that is though provoking and involves research and self-discovery. The school offers three programs for its students to choose from. The programs are theology, philosophy, and concurrent. The theology program offers the academic programs of Master of Divinity, Master of Arts, Common Master of Arts through the Graduate Theological Union or a certificate of Theological studies. The philosophy programs offers 2 degrees, one is a Master of Arts, and the other is Concurrent Master of Arts.

Concurrent programs enable students to build a dual master’s degree that involves both theology and philosophy or theology with a Master of Divinity degree. The Dominican School brings religion and education in perfect harmony. The end result is a graduate with a future that never stops asking questions or looking for answers.
