About the college

College of Alameda was opened in 1968 and is part of Peralta Community College district. As with many colleges, this one also transfers to a four-year college with the requirements of the courses offered. The instructors are dedicated to the success of their students and offer many other things besides teaching the course. They offer counseling, tutoring, financial aid, a student support service to name a few. College of Alameda offers college level courses for a moderate cost to students.

Campus

Parking permits and buses stop nearby so you have transportation to and from school. Many stores and cafes are in biking or walking distance to the college. This beautiful school is on 62 acres and is easily accessible by the AC Transit bus or car. There is a central courtyard with the course buildings surrounding it so the staff and students interact better with each other. On campus, housing is not available but the student support office will help you by giving you the housing options around the surrounding area. Meals are not provided either. You can find many students share housing and this might be an option for you.

Courses

Several courses available are: art studies, Business management, computer science and engineering, construction trades, family and social work, law, liberal arts, mathematics, mechanics, medical support and technology and office administration just to name a few. Financial aid is available to all students to help you succeed in securing your schooling. There are 71 teachers with a total enrollment of 5,979 in 2007. 2,740 are full time students. State tuition is $564 and out of state is $5,380. Books and accessories come to $1,422. They have graduated with 276 getting associate degrees and50 with 1-2 year certificates and 49 with 1-year certificates. They also offer part time and weekend studies. This school is a great choice for the low tuition.
