About the College
The Allan Hancock College has a long history beginning in 1920 when the Santa Maria High School District established the Santa Maria Junior College. In the beginning, the classes were held in the high school until 1937 until a college wing was built onto the high school. From this time forward, the Allan Hancock College has grown and in 1963, the Allan Hancock Joint Community College District was created. The college has now grown to four campuses and offers a large variety of courses including online classes. The Allan Hancock College began a certificate program with law enforcement in 1965 and since that time, has awarded certificates in areas such as dental assisting, fire technology, medical assisting, nursing assistant, licensed vocation nursing, human services, and emergency medical technician. The apprenticeship program that began in 163 has helped many students receive employment in industries such as wiring, carpentry, painting, heavy equipment operation, and plumbing. Campuses Santa Maria Santa Maria is the main campus for Allan Hancock College. The campus is 105 acres and is home to around three dozen buildings. The campus offers a Student Center, Sports Pavilion, including the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium, and the Marian and Severson theatres, home of the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, to name a few. The campus is only 10 miles from the ocean and is one of the most beautiful and serene campuses offering a park like setting. Lompoc Valley Center Lompoc Valley Center is home on the north end of Lompoc. This center opened in 1999 and offers three main building as well as a utility structure. The center is located on 23 acres of a 156-acre parcel that includes portions of Davis Creek. Vandenberg AFB Center Vandenberg AFB Center is home at Vandenberg Air Force Base Center. In 1952, when the air force base was still known as Camp Cook, Allan Hancock College was offering classes. Solvang Center Solvang Center is home in the downtown area of Solvang in the Village Square. The Solvang Center was opened in August of 2000 and offers not only classes but also a lecture classroom, an activity classroom, and an administrative office and reception area.
