About the College

The Allan Hancock College has a long history beginning in 1920 when the Santa Maria High School District established the Santa Maria Junior College. In the beginning, the classes were held in the high school until 1937 until a college wing was built onto the high school. From this time forward, the Allan Hancock College has grown and in 1963, the Allan Hancock Joint Community College District was created. The college has now grown to four campuses and offers a large variety of courses including online classes.

The Allan Hancock College began a certificate program with law enforcement in 1965 and since that time, has awarded certificates in areas such as dental assisting, fire technology, medical assisting, nursing assistant, licensed vocation nursing, human services, and emergency medical technician. The apprenticeship program that began in 163 has helped many students receive employment in industries such as wiring, carpentry, painting, heavy equipment operation, and plumbing.
