About the college
The Universal College of Beauty has a rich history that dates back to the 1930’s and a woman by the name of Hazel D. Williams. Hazel was looking for a beauty college to attend and was being turned away because of racial discrimination. Upset, but not discouraged she and her husband went on to open a beauty college by the name of Henrietta Beauty College. The college was named for the woman who financed the college. Campus The college was renamed years later and today is still going strong with quality beauty education. Universal College of Beauty operates 3 campuses in the California area with one located in Compton. It is known as campus number three and gives all students an opportunity to learn the beauty basics and go on to teaching the skills to others or working as a cosmetology entrepreneur. The training is hands on with a great connection to the community with student services. Courses The Compton campus/salon offers students 3 programs of study for their education. Students can choose from cosmetology, manicurist and an instructor trainee program. The cosmetology program is a 1600 clocked hour course with a focus on hair, nails, skin, make up and over 500 hours dedicated to clinical practice. 400-clocked hours are required for the manicurist program with 40 hours of hands on practice. The instructor trainee program is 600 hours where students learn the basics of teacher aids to train other students. The Universal College of Beauty is a college for everyone and Hazel would be proud to see her college and all three campuses today. The training learned can take graduates into the rewarding and successful career of cosmetologist, hair stylist, manicurist or teacher.
