About the college

Within the Claremont Colleges is the women’s college called Scripps College. It was founded in 1926 by Ellen Browning Scripps. Ellen was a well known newspaper publisher and philanthropist. The college combines liberal arts education with a beautiful campus and various student activities at one of the four nearby co-ed colleges. Scripps is dedicated to diversity, quality education, and skills that can lead graduates into the workforce with leadership qualities that will impress local employers.

Campus

Scripps College has small classes and a personal size that can truly compare with the major universities that surround the college in Claremont, California. The college campus houses 17 academic and administrative buildings, 9 residence halls and a senior apartment building. Also on campus is an athletic building with a pool and exercise room. The Sallie Tiernan Field House is located on campus and has an aerobics studio and other spaces for fitness and health education. There is also an art building with four annual exhibitions called the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery.

Courses

At Scripps College, women are offered Bachelor of Arts degree programs, combined degree programs, off campus study, post baccalaureate premedical programs, and academic departments. Scripps College offers a variety of interdisciplinary programs in American, Asian, Africana, Asian American, Chicano, and Jewish studies. The off campus programs include accounting, Asian language and computer science that can lead graduates to a rewarding and successful future with quality education.

While attending class students are offered career planning, peer tutoring, athletic programs and education that can lead to a rewarding place in the competitive job market.
