About the college

College of the Canyons is a two-year public community college that officially opened in 1969. The earthquake on February 9, 1971 was a historical event for the college. They were making plans on rebuilding and after the earthquake, they changed all the plans and made College of the Canyons one of the safest college structures in California. They only had to reshelf books that toppled off shelves in one of the hardest hit buildings, which was the library and it, only took two days to clean up some of the other buildings.

Campus

You will see over the span of the college much construction. They continually update and expand the college for more students as the popularity grows. There is no on campus housing or meals but there are bus and shuttle stops in well-lit areas for your safety. There are libraries for your studying needs as well as activity rooms and bookstore. You can relax in the student lounge. There are several student housing off campus you can find out more about at the guidance office.

They have handed out 871 associate degrees, 33 1-year certificates, and 3 1-2 year certificates in 2007. The tuition is $638 for State, $5,168 for Out of State and the books and accessories come to about $1,422. Financial aid is available for students to apply for. There are 116 full time with tenure staff and 46 without tenure and working towards it. There is full. Part time and weekends studies available for everyone to fit it into their schedule.
