About the college
Since 1887, Pomona College is one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the world. It is located in Claremont, California and is only 35 miles from Los Angeles, so you still can enjoy the nightlife after studying. It has famous beaches and ski resorts within driving distance to Pomona. There are about 1500 students enrolled with 50-50 student ratio of men to women. Pomona colleges have received several awards including Rhodes, Fulbright, Marshall, and Watson. About the campus Located on 140 acres, Pomona’s campus has over 60 buildings and 12 residence halls that house almost all the students that attend. You will have to speak to student services to get into housing before school starts. They have a library, student’s services center and a bookstore. There is a theatre that has 350-seat auditorium and a 100 seat experimental theatre. They have a Smith Campus center that holds two restaurants, a recreation room, and a student store. This was built for the students in 1999 and remodeled in 2007. They have a state of the art computer system with a fiber optic cable backbone to connect all buildings on campus. Each dorm room has a one-port per-pillow connection. They are soon going to be a totally wireless connection. The tech labs have Windows and Macintosh and also printers, scanners, and high tech editing programs. About the courses The main courses of study students are taking are mathematics, conservation and resource management, liberal arts, science and medicine. Other courses include computer science and engineering, drama and performing arts, family and social work, fine arts, music, medicine. There are 116 full time faculty members and 55 without tenure, but working towards it and 5 without, not available. Financial aid and other government programs are available to those who qualify.
