About the college
Vanguard University has a rich history that involves ministry work and three men by the names of Harold K. Needham, D.W Kerr and W.C. Pierce. The year was 1920 and these men were looking to open a school that prepared others for Christian ministry work. The Southern California Bible College was born. In 1959, the name was changed to Southern California College when liberal arts majors were added. The year 1999 ushered in the name Vanguard University and today the school includes the college, Graduate School and the School of Professional Studies. Campus Vanguard University is located in Costa Mesa, California. Having a location in Orange County gives students the Newport Beach close by and the cities of LA and San Diego less than 2 hours away. Year round activities keep students busy because the average temperature is 67 degrees. There are churches and ministry opportunities all around the campus with jobs and internships available too. The campus offers on and off site housing, counseling, career services, meals and men’s and women’s athletic programs. Courses At the Vanguard University of Southern California, students can choose from two academic divisions. One is the college of arts and sciences and the other is professional and graduate studies. There are undergraduate majors, adult degree programs, a child development program, graduate programs and a teacher advancement program. The school for professional studies offers working adults the opportunity to complete their baccalaureate degree in the evening while still working during the day. Religion and education go together harmoniously at Vanguard University. The school was started with the ideals of Christian ministry and today that is still being instilled in the school’s students and graduates.
