About the college

Columbia College was established in 1968 but was then known as Columbia Junior College. It dropped the junior in 1978. Columbia offers many different degrees to students, which include various associate degrees and 56 certificate degrees in various categories. They have a wide variety of sports and compete in the central valley Conference and is a member of the Community College League of California.

Campus

Columbia College spans over 250 acres of forestland in Sonora, California. The campus has many different varieties of trees and birds that make bird watching a hobby of many students. The campus was built with the architectural style of California back in the Gold Rush Days. It is keeping with the history of the Mother Lode Region. Columbia College has on Campus housing but they do not own them so they do not operate, maintain, or manage these buildings. The owners are Francis J. Pogacar, trustee and all questions and concerns shall be directed to them. The staff of student support can help you find housing off campus if you wish to live there. Many Host families are around the campus to provide housing for some students. Some even take in more than one.

Courses

The most popular courses taken at Columbia are conservation and resource management, liberal arts and cooking and culinary arts. There are hundreds of courses offered at Columbia that you can call and get a course schedule to plan your education with.

The tuition is very affordable here with In State $520 and Out of State $4,672. The books and other materials come to $1,386. There were 204 associate degrees handed out in 2007 and 1-year certificate were 105 and 1-2 year certificate were 21.

There are 59 teachers with 39 being full time. Total enrollment for 2007 was 2734 with 1490 being full time. There are also part time courses available to those who have a hectic schedule themselves but want to continue their education.
