San Mateo County is located in the state of California. Its name is Spanish for St. Matthew County. Its location is close to the San Francisco Bay Area and this particular county covers the majority of the San Francisco Peninsula and is north of Santa Clara County.
The county has marine transport with deepwater ports, public transportation with the SamsTRan, local bus, and the Caltrain, a commuter rail system. The BART system also serves the international airport and the northern part of the county.
San Mateo County has quite a few accomplishments under its belt. The county is one of the 20 most affluent counties in the entire US. It received this prestigious honor because it has steady and growing personal, per capita, and household income. The median household income here is a staggering 69,819. Family income was even higher with numbers that exceed 78,000. Per capita was just over 39,000 and the poverty level was 8.5 percent for the county.
San Mateo is an ideal spot for nature lovers too. The county has various habitats that include marine, oak, coastal scrub and redwood forest. Wildlife is also quite abundant in the county.
