About the college
For the Universal College of Beauty its start was not a happy one, but one that has since made graduates out of many beauty field students. In May of 1930, a woman by the name of Hazel D. Williams was finding it hard to get into a beauty school because of racial discrimination. Determined not to quit she decided to open a beauty school of her own with the help of her husband. In 1956, the school’s name was changed to what we know that it is called today. Campus Hazel wanted her school to have opportunities for all and for that reason, there are 3 campuses that bear the Universal College of Beauty name. One of the campuses is located in the city of LA and is known as campus number two. LA is a city full of career avenues and creative adventures around every corner with mountains as the backdrop and beaches in front. Courses Universal College of Beauty offers 3 programs all related to the beauty and cosmetology field. They are cosmetology, manicurist and an instructor trainee program. The cosmetology program is 1600 hours with training in all areas of cosmetology. Only 400 hours are required for the manicurist program and 600 are required for the trainee program. With training from the Universal College of Beauty and its programs, graduates can work in local salons or own a salon of their own. The college’s mission is to prepare students for a future as a teacher of the field or cosmetology entrepreneur. Hazel wanted so much to be a part of the cosmetology world and because of her we have the Universal College of Beauty and today it is still going strong.
