About the college
Oriental medicine and acupuncture has been around for many years in China and in the 1970’s, 1979 to be exact, the Samra University of Oriental Medicine became the first school of its kind to be approved by the educational system. The training at Samra is deeply rooted in Chinese medical theory, herbology and clinical work focused on sciences and anatomy with classes that are taught in English, Mandarin Chinese and Korean. Campus The Samra University is located in one the most culturally diverse cities in California. Los Angeles has beauty with mountains and beaches and local industry jobs on every corner. The campus has a public clinic where students close to graduation can perform procedures on the community under professional supervision. With this kind of hands on training, students get real world job experience. In addition, there is an herbal pharmacy with herbs, extracts, powders and commercially prepared products. The pharmacy can even make individual formulas for patients on site. Courses When students enter Samra, they are working towards a Master of Science degree in oriental medicine. The degree program focuses on courses in Oriental medicine, acupuncture, herbology and Western sciences. Students go through clinical training, are required to take elective courses, and can even be a part of internships on Beijing or continuing education or English as a Second Language courses. The M.S. degree has to be completed within 8 years of the enrollment date and students who start this program must have 2 years of study followed by completion of herbology, acupuncture and Oriental medicine courses. With an education from Samra, graduates can approach healthcare and patients with an open mind to alternative medicine, including acupuncture and herbology.
