About the college
The Guitar Institute of technology opened its doors in 1977 to students wanting to learn to play guitar. This was the groundwork for Musicians Institute. Howard Roberts, who was an established guitarist himself, uses his education philosophy in his teachings with co-founder Pat Hicks. The original instructors were Joe Diorio, Ron Eschete, and Don Mock started to teach the vision that Howard had. The first class to graduate was in 1978, and the famous New York jazz guitarist, Howard Alden was one of the graduates. The class took its class photo in front of LA jazz club Donte’s. At that time the whole graduating class could fit inside the club, today the club can fit inside Musicians Institute’s concert hall.
